I thought, perhaps, if you had some time that you could come over to my world for the afternoon. For tea and perhaps we could go on a training session. I know I declined your help before but--well, that recent virus clearly made you felt uncomfortable.

It might not have been my fault, Minazuki-san, but I still feel badly about that. If nothing else we can just have tea together.

[Mami knows that's a polite knock--magical girls of a feather, and all that. She opens her door with a friendly-looking smile and steps aside, motioning Karen to enter. It's not a mansion but it's still very expensively decorated. Not to mention too big for a single person to live in.

Oh and there's the tea on a glass table next to the very large windows that reflect the carpet's pattern.] Minazuki-san, please come in.

[Well, normal people would think of it as too big for a single person. Karen's kind of weird about that.

Regardless, she steps inside with a smile.] It's good to see you again, Tomoe-san.

[Mami nods.] I'm glad that you decided to come over. There's even some cake, if you'd like some.

[Not...like she specially made it or anything. Really.]

I would. Thank you. [Karen takes a seat, completely unsuspicious of Mami's possible cake-making activities.]

You're quite welcome. [Mami pours her some tea before going about getting the cake ready. Then she sits down and pours herself a cup.]

I thought it would give us a chance to talk, magical girl to magical girl.

We never do seem to really talk about such things, do we?

[Sip. Mami's tea is nice.]

[Sip.]

That's true. I thought, perhaps, we could today. [Another sip and then she sets her cup down, looking at the ring on her own finger.] While I am sure of my capabilities of fighting alone, there has been an increasingly number of witches as of late. Mitikihara is a large city--even if I start skipping school and look for witches in broad daylight I wouldn't be able to cover it all.

[Mami takes a deep breath.] As you've offered your help before... I would rather recieve help from a magical girl. Two people can cover larger areas; we can keep contact with each other through our phones while on patrol.

[Karen listens with interest and concern. Increasing number of witches? Given what she knows, that means there must be an increasing number of magical girls going bad. Does that mean there are more magical girls in general, or are there a whole bunch that are just all reaching their "expiration dates" at once? Well, the question is mostly academic for their purposes. The fridge horror will hit later. Despite it all, she still manages to flinch at the phrase "skipping school."]

[Distracted as she is, she doesn't realize where Mami is going with this until it's made explicit. When that moment comes, though, she can tell this wasn't a decision made lightly. She nods at Mami's reasoning, and smiles.] I'll be happy to help. ...Thank you.

[Mami notes the flinch at the phrase. It's almost funny--she let's herself inwardly smile at that. She'll tease Karen about it later; Mami does normally keep a good attendance record. Can't afford to let the school suspect anything out of the ordinary, after all.]

I should be thanking you. [She's thought about this a great deal. Strategically it's a good decision. As she said, two people can split up and cover more ground. Karen seems to be experienced at fighting; sensing the witches through her own brand of magic wouldn't be too difficult. Logically, Mami knows she's making the right decision.

Yet her guilt and sense of responsibility won't allow anyone to fight directly by her side.] It means a great deal that you'd put time aside to help.

It's really no trouble. [--Wait.] No, that's absurd. But it isn't as if this is some unreasonable amount of effort on my part. Staying in practice and getting more experience with different types of enemies are things I should be doing.

--And I'll also feel better, after all. [Is she blushing? Yes, Karen is blushing.]

I know it was absurd to say that. I'll admit I'm a bit embarrassed to ask help. [She's not the only one blushing. Though by the calm, reassuring smile on Mami's face it's easy to forget that.] --ah, yes, you haven't fought a witch before. [She stands up.]

Just a moment, please. [Mami moves the kitchen area, grabbing a notebook innocently labeled "math" and returns to place it on the table before sitting down again.] I usually take notes after a fight. This is the latest filled notebook. It includes notes on the witch that I fought when I met Miki-san and Kaname-san.

[Karen gives it a brief look-over, flipping through to see what kind of information is inside. With this, Mami has actually managed to out-Karen Karen.] Wow. Even I never thought to do something like this. It looks really useful. I'll need to make a copy...

[She laughs, mostly at herself.] Ah--most people wouldn't go to the trouble, I admit. It's nothing compared to actually fighting a witch but it's a start.

It's certainly more than I had before. Thank you. [She sets it aside for now and takes another sip of her tea.]

[Mami takes another sip.] They're cruel creatures, feeding off the evils of the world. That there's an increasing number of them is a worrying thought.

[Karen certainly looks troubled by the thought! Almost as if she's worried for Mami's safety for multiple reasons, though of course that's far more specific than you'd be able to get from a facial expression.] Do you have any idea what might be causing it?

[Mami shakes her head.] I asked Kyubey about it. He said that this happens from time to time.

Kyubey?

He's a very dear friend of mine. When I made my wish it was kind of like a contract. Kyubey was the one who granted my wish and turned me into a magical girl.
